Saturday, March 17 was a magic day for Rio Vista High School girls. Members of Soroptimist International of Rio Vista held their third annual Fairy Godmother Boutique to provide young ladies with dresses, shoes and accessories for their prom or special day. In addition, the girls received goodie bags and door prizes from local merchants, and hair and makeup demonstrations given by Chandra Drury of Mary Kay and Katie Cesna and Vanessa Sandoval of Trendsetters.

The Rotary and Lions Clubs donated prom tickets, which were awarded in a drawing. Light refreshments were served to the girls and their mothers or guests. Soroptimist members were assisted by CARE volunteers Emma and Johanna, and by RVHS student volunteers Hannah Blankenship, Maria Kogler, and Alyandra Monreal.

Cindy Stewart, an official Fairy Godmother since the event’s inception, appeared with wings and wand to lead the festivities. “This is always a special day for Soroptimists,” she said, “It’s so much fun to help the girls with their dresses, and see them enjoying themselves. We’re so grateful to all the local women who donated items and to the local businesses and service clubs—their help makes this day possible.”
