June 15, 2022 (VALLEJO, CA) – The 2022 Solano County Fair “Bales of Fun”, sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, opens at 4PM at  the Solano County Fairgrounds tomorrow.  Open until 10PM Thursday and Noon to 10 PM Friday through Sunday, the Fair (now in its 73rd year), is back after two years of virtual hiatus due to COVID-19 protocols. This year’s Fair marks a full return to in-person fun, festivities and bringing the community together.

“It was really important for us to continue our new tradition of a free gate during these difficult economic times and to provide guests with a rich experience for the entire family when they come out.  That is why we invested so heavily in both entertainment and children’s activities,” said Mike Ioakimedes, the Executive Director of the Solano County Fair Association.

“We have more than 35 of performers on different stages that folks can come see for free all weekend, culminating in a Concert Under the Stars featuring Chester Gregory, Broadway’s star of Motown: The Musical, Hairspray, and Dreamgirls.  The show starts at 8PM in the Concert Arena.  Attendees can bring folding chairs for the lawn seating and there will be plenty of room to dance.  Afterward folks can stick around to enjoy the best seats in the house for our great FIREWORKS display.”

Thursday and Friday are exciting, fun filled days, but Saturday and Sunday is so fun-packed, there’s not enough room to mention everything.  On both days pigs will race on the McCormick Hall Lawn and hypnotists will fill you with wonder all afternoon in the Expo Lawn Theatre.  You can keep the kiddos busy in the First 5 Family Fun Zone or take in the stilt walkers, watch the bubbles float by in the air and make a visit to the Angels with Heart Teddy Bear Hospital.  There will be Home & Garden Shows and The Vehicles of D-Day takes over Galaxy Plaza with tank rides, artillery demonstrations and caps off Saturday afternoon with a Car Crush.

Although it has come to be known for its high profile entertainers, traditional fair rides and food, the Solano County Fair maintains its commitment to agricultural tradition with the Jack & Bernice Newell Memorial Junior Livestock Auction begins at 1:30 PM in the Livestock Barn on Saturday.  Want to learn how to raise chickens or sheer a sheep? Come ask an expert in the Livestock Barn, open Friday, Saturday, Sunday until 6PM.

On Sunday afternoon, the women of Roller Derby will be on hand providing demonstrations in the Concourse and for an additional fee you can take in Jaripeo (Mexican Bull Riding) and La Adictiva & El Yaki in concert beginning at 2PM.

The Fair’s Sponsoring Partner Kaiser Permanente will be on site providing sunscreen and Solano Public Health & Medic Ambulance will be providing free COVID-19 vaccines all weekend.

About the 2022 Solano County Fair
After two, long, digital years away, the Solano County Fair is back, live and in-person, at the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo, June 16 – 19.  Attendees are invited to come and explore agriculture, artwork, community programs and all the sights and sounds of traditional fair concessions, music and more. “Bales of Fun” is the theme for the 2022 Solano County Fair, the 73rd year in a row that Solano County has celebrated the very special place that we all call home.
