  AMAZING AUGUST!

August – the height of summer harvest – is a month to celebrate!

ROCK THE FLOCK  – 8 years after RioVision worked with city staff to draft and adopt a Public Art Ordinance which included setting aside funds for public art to enhance our community, we are harvesting the fruits of its first project.   On August 20th at 10am, we will introduce and celebrate the installation of five colorfully painted life-sized sheep sculptures on Main St. between Front St. and the flood wall at City Hall. Stay tuned for more information about the event. Five local artists have been donating their time and talent to design and execute the art on each resin animal, including Ellen LaVaccare, Diana Pierce, and Scarlett Dole on the ewes, Julie Jacobs on the lamb, and Harvey Steinhaus on the ram. Each whimsical sculpture has a name to be revealed at the opening! A full article about this project will be available in the Aug-Dec issue of Discover Rio Vista magazine. Join us on the 20th to officially welcome the flock to Rio Vista and “take a selfie” with these celebrity sheep! (To preserve the art, please do not sit on or “ride” them.)

8th ANNUAL HOG AUGUST BITES – Almost here!  August 27th downtown Rio Vista, starting at 10am with fun for the whole family! This year’s raffle is offering amazing prizes and tickets are ON SALE NOW! Drop by the RioVision Art Gallery or Pets4All on Main Street to purchase yours for one or all of these generous packages:

** SPORTS FUN (a dozen tickets–yay!!–for four of our Bay Area professional sports teams: 2 each for the 49ers and Warriors, 4 each for the Giants and the A’s)
** BBQ TIME (5 burner propane grill with cover, accessories, sauces and rubs, hand towels, patio cooler beverage server, weighted blanket, ACE hardware gift cards, and a Hog Wall plaque)

**WINE LOVERS (Wine wall plaque, Vezer-Fairfield: 6 bottles and 6 tastings at 2 sites, Bogle-Clarksburg: 6 bottles and 4 tastings with cheeseboard, Wooden Valley-Suisun Valley: 1 merlot and 2 tastings, Harney Lane-Lodi: $160 gift certificate)

Raffle tickets also on sale at the event on the 27th. (5 tickets for $1, 3 for $10, 10 for $20). Net proceeds benefit the Egbert Field Restoration Project, the Rio Vista High School Booster Club, and the Simonsen Swim Center & Sharks. Information about all the HAB activities is available on facebook.com/riovistahogaugustbites. Volunteers to help with event are still needed: contact us at info@hogaugustbites.com.

RIOVISION GALLERY – Our Rock the Flock RAM painter is our August Artist of the Month. Harvey Steinhaus will also be working on a new mural for the entrance to the Flamingo on Main Street downtown. Harvey’s public art is visible throughout the city as well as his exhibited work at the Gallery and The Point restaurant.  Read more about him in the Spring –Summer edition of Discover Rio Vista magazine and come greet him at his Gallery reception 3-5pm on August 20th.

ART AROUND TOWN BROCHURE – Don’t know where to find this growing bounty of public art in Rio Vista? Stop by the RioVision Gallery @ 116 Main to pick up the free brochure which gives information about and location of completed murals, benches, utility boxes, and sculpture.

LITTER PICKERS – Another successful clean up effort was held on July 23rd along Church St.  To find out more about their event in late August, check NextDoor or Rio Vista Litter Pickers on Facebook.

VOLUNTEERING – Would you like to be part of the community-building projects organized by RioVision? Or maybe you’re just curious? Please join us for our AUGUST COMMUNITY FORUM on August 8th at 45 Main Street from 7-8:30pm. Learn more about opportunities with Discover Rio Vista magazine, Hog August Bites, City Art Project, Riverview Middle School Gardens, LitterPickers, social media, and more.  Hope we will be greeting you there!
