Marvin Albers 1934 – 2023

Marvin Ramon Albers, also known as Marv, passed away on August 29, 2023, at the age of 88 in Lodi, California. He was born on November 20, 1934, in Golden Valley, North Dakota. Marv was a beloved father, grandfather, and brother who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Marv is survived by his children, Kelly Wheeler (Gerald) of Galt, California, Brien Albers (Becky) from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Kim Kidson-Trigg (Christien) of Lodi, California. He was a loving grandfather to Ryan Szichak, Kaleigh, and Lynzie Albers, Jadin, Alexandria, and Tyler Kidson-Trigg. Marv is also survived by his sister, Cora Matney of Sacramento, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Judith Joan Albers, his parents Grace and Raymond Albers, his sister Genevieve Albers, and his brother Delmer Albers.

Marv received his early schooling in Golden Valley, North Dakota, and later in Matteson, Illinois. He graduated from Lodi Union High School on June 5th, 1952. Shortly after graduation, Marv enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served in the Korean War as an aircraft mechanic and later became a load master. He traveled to many countries in Asia during his service, developing a deep appreciation for Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Marv was honored with several medals, including the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean War Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on February 7th, 1960.

Following his military service, Marv and his wife Judith settled in Lodi, California, before eventually moving to Rio Vista, California. He worked at Blackwelder’s Ironworks for many years before establishing his own business, Marv’s Portable Welding. Marv was highly sought after for his detailed work and welding expertise. He also had a talent for creating custom wrought iron design pieces, including wall units, benches, gates, and fences. His craftsmanship can still be found in his family home and his children’s homes today. Marv’s dedication and skill were evident, even though he had initially fibbed about his welding experience when interviewed for the position at Blackwelder’s Ironworks.

Marv worshipped at the United Congregational Church in Lodi, California, where he found solace and community.

In his free time, Marv enjoyed cooking, baking homemade bread, and tending to his garden. He was passionate about gardening and dedicated his efforts to keeping the church garden thriving. Over the years, the garden produced thousands of pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables, which Marv and the church delivered to the Salvation Army soup kitchen. He also cherished moments spent playing pinochle and other card games and making the occasional trip to the casino with his sister Cora. His favorite times were when he was spending time with his kids and grandkids.

A private graveside service with Military Honors will be held on September 30, 2023, at Lodi Memorial Park & Cemetery in Lodi.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to DAV Chapter 59 (Disabled American Veterans) or Wounded Warriors.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to Lodi Funeral Home in Lodi, California.

Marv will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his exceptional skills as a welder. His warm personality and love for his loved one.
