RIOVISION-BRIDGE TO THE FUTURE A Place for You

The City Public Art Program is moving forward toward a colorful Spring 2024!

We received over a dozen applications from nine local artists with designs for Phase II of the Rock the Flock program. Six designs were selected for submission to the City for approval. If approved, the Phase II sculptures including two herons,  two bass, a lamb, and a sheepdog are expected to be painted and installed downtown by late Spring.

RioVision is still accepting applications and designs, through November 7th, at the RioVision Art Gallery on Main Street for the Rock the Spot project to bring color and whimsy to our fire hydrants. For more information, go to riovistavision.com and click on Programs; select City Art Program. Select Rock the Spot on the Application Form (scroll down for the hydrant template).

If you are missing mascot Rammy down by the waterfront at the end of Main, he is being tended to for some minor repairs.

What is historic about Rio Vista? After a great turn out at the RioVision Community Forum on October 9th, there are twenty-three more folks who can respond to that question, including City Council member Sarah Donnelly and Planning Commission Chair Tom Donnelly. Keynote speaker,  Jay Correia, shared some of the secrets to preserving a storied past and informed the community of programs available to us through the California State Office of Historic Preservation.
Save the Date – November 13th  at 45 Main Street, 6pm, for our next Community Forum where we will provide a recap of our 2023 projects and offer an open planning/brainstorming session for 2024. Help us create the vision for next year!

The Rio Vista Litter Pickers will be actively picking up trash along Church Road on Saturday, October 28th, gathering at 1000 Church Road (PSC/ARB Inc.) at 9am. All are welcome. Be sure to check out this video in Soundings Magazine on-line about the Rio Vista Trash Program:  https://soundingsmag.net/2023/10/16/rio-vista-trash-program/. Initiated by Archie Thompson, founder of the Rio Vista Litter Pickers, trash pick up kits are now available to “check out” at the Rio Vista Library on 2nd Street for DIY clean up around the city. The plastic bin contains a reflective safety vest, gloves, a litter grabber, and a large plastic bag. The contents are provided by the City and RioVision. The City picks up the filled bags. Similar programs exist in libraries around the nation. Now you can be part of this growing grassroots effort to demonstrate with action our care for and pride in our community. Reminder:  Hazardous Waste Disposal Day is also October 28th, 8am-2pm, 3000 Airport Road.

Sign Ups are now OPEN for the Thanksgiving Morning Turkey Trot event, November 23,  8am-10am benefitting Rio Vista’s cross country and soccer programs. Events for kids, youth, and adults: https://runsignup.com/Race/CA/RioVista/RioVistaTurkeyTrot. Sign Ups end just before midnight on November 22nd. (Register by November 1st for a free T-shirt).

You can also get your tickets now for the 2023 Holiday Home Tour on December 2nd. Go to the RioVision Gallery at 116 Main or on-line at EventBrite (www.eventbrite.com/ e/holiday-home-tour-tickets-716762876057) for tickets and information. When you are at the Gallery, be sure to enjoy the work of our November Artist of the Month, Kris Hall.

Thank you to all who stopped by to chat with us at our RioVision booth on Main Street during the recent 75th Annual Bass Derby and Festival. Congratulations to the volunteers who put together the award-winning Rio Vision Bass Derby float. Congratulations also to the Lira family who received RioVision’s Spirit of Rio Vista award for 2022. The 2023 awards will be given out in Spring 2024.
