NAPA, CA – U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Napa Flotilla 52, is celebrating its 80th anniversary. First chartered on January 1, 1944, the unit is part of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, 11th District, Division 5, and the United States Coast Guard, Sector San Francisco.
Operating from San Pablo Bay to the Sacramento Delta waters, including the Napa and Petaluma Rivers, Napa Flotilla 52 actively supports USCG Boat Station, Vallejo, and USCG Sector San Francisco, located on Yerba Buena Island.
Flotilla members continue to provide thousands of hours of dedicated service annually, throughout history in peace, wartime, and disasters. In over 80 years of service, members have rescued boaters and provided boating safety patrols, free vessel safety checks, and public boating education. Napa Flotilla 52 also supports the Coast Guard with Aviation, Communications and Marine Safety operations, professionally augmenting active-duty personnel.
Throughout history, the Coast Guard has awarded Napa Flotilla 52 with numerous individual and unit awards, including The Department of Homeland Security, Flotilla Meritorious Achievement Award, for Superior Flotilla Performance.
The members of Napa Flotilla 52 live and work in the communities they serve, understanding the unique needs of the people they serve and protect.
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, created by Congress in 1939, is the uniformed civilian component of the U.S. Coast Guard and supports the Coast Guard in nearly all mission areas. This year, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary celebrated its 85th anniversary with a ceremony held at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington D.C. on June 20th, 2024. The Auxiliary received a letter from President Joe Biden thanking the organization for its many contributions to the safety of our nation’s waterways.
