Rio Vista Business licenses may be applied for at any time during a calendar year by printing an application from the City of Rio Vista website: https://www.riovistacity.com/new-business-information/
Complete the application and mail in or drop in the night drop at City Hall to be reviewed by the Development Review Committee. The city qualifies a calendar year as January – December, consisting of 4 quarters. Payment is by cash or check to the City Rio Vista and is not due until after the application has been approved. Rio Vista Municipal Code Title 5 identifies all businesses conducting business in the City of Rio Vista are required to procure a business license issued by the City of Rio Vista; such as:
- A business with a store front in Rio Vista
- Individual professionals who sub-contract or are independent contractors in a licensed business:
Hair Stylists
Manicurists
Realtors
Massage Therapists
Estheticians
Personal Fitness Trainers
Non-employee, income earning personnel
- A home business run from your home ‘office’ (or couch, easy chair, kitchen table, etc.). This includes home sales and referral marketing of products such as candles, essential oils, cosmetics, clothing, housewares etc.
- A ‘home’ business managed from your cell phone (wherever you are) and you maintain a Rio Vista address; or store product and ship from Rio Vista via USPS, UPS, FED EX etc.
- A non-local business performing contract or subcontracted work in Rio Vista such as plumbers, gardeners, painters, glass repair, housecleaners.
- Other individuals or professional services, whether local or non-local, requiring business licenses:

If you are not a paid employee of a business and you earn income while in the City of Rio Vista, whether a resident or nonresident, then you are responsible to have a Rio Vista City Business License at the time your business is conducted.
All consumers are encouraged to request and validate the business license of any provider to whom they pay a fee for goods or services while in the City of Rio Vista.
