Feel the Excitement of the 75th Rio Vista Bass Derby & Festival Oct. 13th-15th

Are you ready for the 75th Annual Bass Derby & Festival?  There are some exciting new additions as well as some old favorites. October 13th-15th.

On Thursday, October 12th, the Rio Vista Chamber of Commerce will host an Awards Night to kick off the Bass Derby & Festival at the pole barn on Front St.  This gala event will feature dinner, entertainment, and the 2022 Chamber Awards Ceremony. The fishing derby is the next event, and it starts at 6 a.m. on Friday, October 13th (a good day for fishing), and it ends at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 15th. The California Striped Bass Association Isleton Chapter’s weigh masters present striped bass and sturgeon to the official weigh station at the base of Main Street. The top prize is $4000 for the first-place striper, and cash prizes are awarded to the top three places in each category with winning fish.

Tickets for the fishing derby are available on the website (www.bassfestival.com).  Tickets are on sale at the Rio Vista Visitor Center/Chamber of Commerce office at 33 N. 2nd St. and will also be available on the website.

The festival takes place on Front St. and Main St., and entrance is free. At Front and Sacramento Streets, you will find the Beer Garden, which has ice-cold beer and wine (and the tip jar goes towards a youth scholarship). They will be serving Michelob Light, 805, 805 Cerveza, and more, including wine.  Nearby is the margarita booth, which serves several flavors of margaritas.  The Starlight Stage will also be located in the Beer Garden, where 10 bands will entertain us over the 3-day festival.

On stage Friday night, beginning at 3:15 pm, will be Groovy Judy, Vinyl Countdown, and Elvis Song Book (Jim Anderson & The Rebels).  Saturday bands, beginning at 1:45 pm, include Angela Street Band, Tom Petty Experience, Johnny Cash Tribute, and River Ratz. Moving Parts will perform on Sunday, beginning at 12:30 p.m.  There will be plenty of room to dance right in front of the stage and many tables and chairs if you would like to enjoy some lunch, dinner, or snacks while listening to the great music.

 Speaking of lunch, dinner, and snacks, there will be a large number of food trucks selling an array of food items like, BBQ brisket, lumpia, smoothies, ice cream cones, corn dogs, cotton candy, snow cones, and kettle corn, among other things.

On Front Street, vendors will be lining up and offering a wide range of goods for purchase. Among the many items available are jewelry, face painting, tie-dyed clothing, soaps, lotions, candles, Color Street nails, Mary Kay, Tupperware, and Paparazzi jewelry. Now is a great time to take a stroll down Main Street and explore the shops, restaurants, and other attractions Rio Vista has to offer. Ben’s Friends, RioVision Gallery, Foster’s Bighorn, and a variety of other locations.

There will be more than ten different jump houses and slides in the Kids’ Zone, which will be located on Front Street. For $15, a daily wristband that includes unlimited fun will be offered. Across the street at the Perry Farm Petting Zoo, there will be some adorable farm animals for everyone to enjoy.  Guess the weight of the giant pumpkin is new this year. Located on Front Street, it is open to all ages. Prizes for the top winners.

Do not forget that the “Catch of the Day” Rummage Sale also begins on Friday, the 13th. This is a huge annual event that takes place at 45 Main Street. This is the biggest fundraiser for the Rio Vista Food Pantry.

On Saturday, October 14th, the Rio Vista Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast, and the Rio Vista Fire Department Hot Shots will volunteer to help. The breakfast will begin at the RV Fire Station at 7:00 a.m. On Saturday, the Rio Vista Lions Club will also hold a car show on Main St.

One of the biggest fireworks display ever for Bass Festival will be over the river at 8:45 p.m. Provided by Rio Vista Farms/CoCo Farms as the Platinum Event Sponsor.

On Sunday, October 15th, take part in the excitement of a genuine community parade. It begins at noon near Lira’s parking lot and proceeds down Main Street to Front Street. “Through the Years” is the theme for this year. If you would like to join in and participate in the parade, go to

Sunday concludes with the awarding of the fishing derby prizes.  There are cash prizes and a number of great prizes for each category.  The winners of the Kids’ Derby will be announced and prizes awarded.

The Soroptomist’s Meat Raffle will declare a winner, and the Rio Vista Chamber of Commerce will award prizes from a variety of outdoor and sporting raffle prizes.
