Kids’ Day at the Sunday Market

Our roving reporter broke the news that the June 11th Sunday Market will celebrate the children of the California Delta.  Kids’ Day at the Sunday Market takes place that day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in our central meadow.

A dozen or more arts and crafts vendors return for the opening Sunday of the Sunday Market’s Summer Season.  The Sunday Market, sponsored by the Delta Bay Foundation, welcomes creative Delta residents to show and sell their wares.  With everything from hand-made soaps to vintage jewelry, the Sunday Market continues to delight visitors as its fourth season unfolds.  Customers stroll in the morning breeze and afternoon sun, finding treasures and trinkets to gift or to grace their homes.

The June 11th Kids’ Day provides an opportunity for young customers to enjoy parent-directed games on the Park’s grounds and the hard-surface tennis court.  Market volunteers will provide sidewalk chart, yard games, and bouncy balls for families to enjoy.  Each child will receive an I Spy at the Sunday Market card.  With their adults, they will stroll through the market, looking for items that correspond with the list.  When they see one, they need only get the vendor’s signature on the card.   Each successful Spy will return their cards to the Market Manager and select a kid-size price from the I Spy Prize Basket.

The Market Manager and her volunteer companions will also present a Beer & Wine Tent, with sale  proceeds benefiting the Delta Bay Foundation.  Cold juice boxes will be available at the Beer & Wine Tent for children, to keep the little ones hydrated during their play.  Taqueria Mexico returns as the Market food vendor.  Customers can dine in the fenced food court and sip a relaxing cold drink while enjoying the singer-songwriter Randy Carey, a Sunday Market mainstay and favorite.  Carey, who hales from the Elk Grove area, loves his time on the Delta.  His enthusiasm shows as his delightful music wafts across the park grounds.

Some of the vendors plan kids’ activities at their booths.  The Tiny Bakeshop just might have a hidden toy for a customer to find, with a prize for the  lucky recipient!  Kimmy by Kim Carlson will have a kids’ planting event at their booth while supplies last.  There will be no end of merriment at the Sunday Market!

Park Delta Bay provides a venue for the Sunday Market, and the Delta Bay Foundation allows vendors to participate without a table or booth fee.  The mission of the Delta Bay Foundation centers on promoting the culture, community, commerce, and conservation of the California Delta through activities such as the Sunday Market and fundraising for the local volunteer fire department, the River Delta Fire District.

For directions to the park, call the park office at 916-777-5588.  For information about berthing at the Delta Bay Marina, contact the marina at 916-777-4153.  The Delta Bay Foundation is a California not-for-profit with 501(c)(3) status, separate and independent from the ownership and management of Park Delta Bay.  The Park provides a venue for Foundation activities as a courtesy to the community. For information about the Sunday Market or the Delta Bay Foundation, contact the Market Manager, Corinne Corley, by email at ccorleyjd@gmail.com or phone, 816-520-9152.

See you at Kids’ Day at the Sunday Market!
