FAIRFIELD, CA — The Solano Valley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, in collaboration with the Elizabeth Nicole and Jacqueline Antoinette Holmes Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation and The Pull Up, will host a Sickle Cell Anemia and Health Equity Resource Fair on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Solano County Building, 675 Texas Street, Fairfield, California 94533.
Held in recognition of Sickle Cell Awareness Month, the event will connect individuals living with sickle cell disease, families, caregivers, health professionals and community members with education, wellness resources and support. The program will open with remarks from Chapter President Tamara Lee Ward and Solano County Supervisor Wanda Williams.
Alana Stephens, PA-C, MSPAS, MPH, will present “Sickle Cell 101: Understanding the Disease.” Additional program highlights include personal testimonies; a medical panel on living well with sickle cell disease; Christen of Creation of Society presenting “Managing Sickle Cell Using Moringa: The Genotype Without the Phenotype”; spoken-word artist Papi Grande; a Kaiser Permanente speaker; advocacy and health-equity information; community resource tables; music; raffles; food; and family activities.
“Sickle cell disease continues to have a profound impact on individuals and families, particularly within the African American community,” said Ward. “Through this resource fair, we hope to increase understanding of the disease, connect families with valuable resources and encourage our community to become advocates for equitable and compassionate health care.”
The American Red Cross will present information about the importance of blood donation and its impact on people living with sickle cell disease. The Chapter is also encouraging members, families and community supporters to sign up to give blood. The event honors the lives and legacies of twin sisters Elizabeth “Lizzie” Nicole Holmes and Jacqueline “Jackie” Antoinette Holmes, who lived with sickle cell anemia. Their journeys inspired the Elizabeth Nicole and Jacqueline Antoinette Holmes Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, which raises awareness, supports patients and families, and advocates for research, resources, and equitable care.
Founded by Calvanay Nunnley, The Pull Up is a community-based support group that provides connection, encouragement, and a safe space for people living with sickle cell anemia. Jackie Holmes was one of its founding members and helped shape its commitment to ensuring that no one faces sickle cell disease alone.
