Rio Vista Welcomes New Kaiser Medical Facility

New medical vehicle in service for Rio Vista.

On Wednesday, May 5th, Rio Vista hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony welcoming Kaiser Permanente’s new mobile health facility to our community. It will visit Rio Vista on a regular weekly schedule, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  The 40-foot van includes two fully functional medical examination rooms as well as laboratory diagnostic equipment. It is staffed by a fully qualified physician and licensed vocational nurse.  This is not meant to replace a member’s regular Kaiser doctor but is available for routine health screening and other preventative care services.

Until now, Rio Vista’s Kaiser Permanente members traveled over 40 miles in both directions for medical services or doctor visits.  During the ceremony, Mr. Nor Jemjemian, senior vice president, Kaiser Napa-Solano Area Manager, said “we believe everyone has the right to good health.  That is why we are so deeply committed to making preventative care and wellness more accessible to everyone.” He went on to say that the new mobile clinic should reduce the average 38 visits a day Rio Vista Kaiser members now make.

Bringing a clinic of any sort to Rio Vista began early in 2016 when Mayor Kott, several Rio Vista citizens and city officials began discussions with Kaiser executives and Solano County officials.  The largest obstacle to opening a permanent facility is the current size of our city population.  Kaiser needs a service area greater than 10,000 homes to be cost-effective.   A predictable visiting clinic is a good start for our community.  Kaiser plans to measure the impact on its members which, hopefully, will lead to a permanent medical solution.

Kaiser thanked Commander O’Brien for setting aside a fixed space for the mobile health vehicle when it comes to Rio Vista.  Visits to the mobile clinic are by appointment only (707-427-4510) Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 610 St. Francis Way, Rio Vista, California.
