On May 18th, the City of Rio Vista Interim City Manager and two elected city council members met with representatives of the River Delta Unified School District (RDUSD).

This meeting was essential for our city government, and many of our non-profit, senior, youth, and other community clubs in Rio Vista. The principal subject was the renewal of an agreement outlining how the two agencies may use each other’s property and facilities. For example, the city may want to use the Rio Vista High School gymnasium for a community meeting that is too large to fit into city-owned facilities. Or the local elementary school may wish to use the city-owned Egberts Field baseball diamonds to host a baseball tournament with visiting schools.

Other examples include local non-profit charities using the high school or elementary school cafeteria for fundraising dinners. Or the Lion’s Club may want to host a Rockin’ the River Summer Concert at the high school’s football stadium.

The RDUSD and Rio Vista city agreements define who is responsible for event insurance, event contact names, setup, cleanup, fees, event security, who may apply for facility use, and more.

The facilities specified in the pending renewal agreement are:

For the city

City Hall Council Chambers

Fire Department Community Room

Youth Recreation Facility

Police Department Community Room

City Parks and Fields (all)

Bridges Modular Building

Swimming Pool

For the School District

D.H. White Elementary School

Riverview Middle School

Rio Vista High School

Conference Room at the River Delta Unified School District Office

Other meeting issues concerned school land use for a proposed city water well, and how pending Brann Ranch developer agreements would best be structured for both the School District and the City.  A prime concern for the development project would be the addition of school-age children to the City’s population and how the school system would accommodate them.

The public is encouraged to attend future Joint Meeting of the City of Rio Vista and the River Delta Unified School District. These meetings are noted on the City Meeting Calendar at www.riovistacity.com under the heading Agendas and Minutes. These meetings will also be listed in The Beacon under “What is Happening in Rio Vista.”
