*Names and other specific information to identify persons are intentionally omitted.  All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.  Charges may be changed or dropped.  This is not a reflection of every police activity, but rather a selective summary.

September 3

An Officer saw a car driving with expired registration.  He pulled the driver over and they proceeded to pull into a drive-thru lane.  They tried to order food and were told by the officer to park as soon as they left the lane.  The officer waited for them to exit the lane (they did not stop at the window to get their food) and they pulled over.  The driver had very slurred speech and the officer could smell alcohol on her breath.  She failed to perform well on the field sobriety tests and then refused to provide a breath sample.  So, the officer authored a warrant for a nurse to draw her blood her testing.  The driver was booked into county jail for suspected driving under the influence of alcohol.

September 5

At 4 o’clock in the morning, officers were called to the 100 block of Tahoe Drive for a report of a man with no pants screaming and jumping in the middle of the street.  Officers found the man and recognized that he was under the influence of drugs.  They tried to talk to him, but he was high and not responding lucidly.  They located heroin and an empty needle next to him.  He was also on county probation and state parole.  He was arrested for possessing the drugs and for violating the drug free terms of his probation and parole.

September 7

Officers received a call that a man was making wandering dangerously on the Rio Vista Bridge.  Officers found the man on a bench at the promenade.  They saw a can of beer next to the man and when they tried to talk to him, they could tell he was obviously intoxicated.  They asked his name and where he lived, but he could not respond coherently.  He also had trouble keeping his balance on the bench where he was seated.  Since the officers could not find his address and he could not give a phone number to call someone to pick him up, he was placed under arrest for being drunk in public.  He was booked into jail because he could not care for himself and it was potentially dangerous for him to be left alone.

September 10

This same person above had been released from jail and returned home.  He was helping his mother move residences, when he then took her keys and car without her permission.  Se reported her car stolen at around 9am.  At 11am, an officer saw the car driving in downtown Rio Vista.  He stopped the car and detained the driver.  Since it was his mother that he stole from, she was contacted and said she wanted to press charges for her son stealing her car.  He was then booked into jail again for vehicle theft and the car was returned to the owner.

September 11, 2020

Dispatch was sending county deputies to an address just outside city limits for a family dispute and possible a domestic violence incident.  Because our officers were so close, they responded to make sure people were safe while deputies were on their way.  They learned that a domestic violence assault had occurred and that the suspect had left the house.  A drone was requested to search the rural area for the suspect.  A citizen driving a work truck said they saw someone in their field who was running toward a blue truck that didn’t belong there.  The drone operator located the truck and began to follow it from overhead.  They provided the direction to the ground units who were able to intercept the driver who was taken into custody with no issue.
