RIO VISTA – Measure O is a ¾ cent sales tax that generates approximately $1,398,000 each year, allowing the City to provide critical services such as fire, police, and public works services. 92% of the funds support fire, 7% supports law enforcement, and 1% supports Public Works Department personnel. Most critically, the funds support two engine fire staffing levels with paramedic level services.
This is not a new tax, nor would it be increased. If Measure O is approved by the voters, the sales tax in Rio Vista will remain what it is today.
Initially approved by Rio Vista voters in 2012 for a five-year period, voters have approved extensions to continue the ¾ cent sales tax, most recently in 2020 with 62% voter support. It’s set to expire in March 2027 unless extended by the voters again this November.
What if Measure O is not extended? If Measure O is not extended there will be reduced staffing levels within the Fire Department that will negatively impact response times in instances where there are duplicate calls. There will also be reductions in the Police and Public Works Departments that decrease service levels.
City staff will be providing informational presentations for the community. Presentations have been held at Trilogy and Summit at Liberty for residents of those respective communities. The same presentation will be held for the general public on September 23, 2026, at 6pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall (1 Main Street) and for Trilogy residents on September 28.
