When Rio Vista Citizens for Seniors was incorporated on March 4, 1980, Judy Tussy was among the 40 founding members who signed the incorporation papers. During the next few months, the group launched a membership drive and sought a site for a Senior Center. In January of 1982, a site had been secured – a vacant warehouse. To remodel the space for a senior center, a Building Committee was formed; Judy Tussy served as chairperson.
The Senior Center officially opened on December 14, 1982, with an Open House and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
In 1985, members saw a need to expand the facility. Judy again served as chair of that building committee.
During the more than four decades since Citizens for Seniors was incorporated, Judy has continued as an active member of the Board of Directors, past president for many years and spearhead for nine fund-raising events such as the annual Spring Fashion Show. She has consistently shown herself a dynamo who could be counted on to get things done.
Judy’s contributions to the community of Rio Vista go well beyond the Senior Center but that is another story. For us, as current members of the board of Rio Vista Citizens for Seniors, it is a sad day. We wish her well. She will be missed.
