Marine Vessel Traffic Required to Call in Advance for Bridge Lift
RIO VISTA – Caltrans is alerting motorists that the Rio Vista Bridge on State Route 12 is scheduled for partial nighttime closures next week for ongoing part replacement work.
The bridge remains safe for travel. A Caltrans contractor and structural engineers are continuing with the second phase of the project to refurbish mechanical parts considered worn and due for replacement.
Next week Caltrans will begin removal and replacement of the existing span and counterweight guide rollers and shafts. The bridge will be under nightly one-way traffic control Monday through Friday.

Caltrans and the U.S. Coast Guard are requiring mariners to call in four (4) hours in advance to the bridge draw tendor for the bridge to be lifted. Scheduling a bridge lift in advance is necessary for workers and boaters safety.
The U.S. Coast Guard will announce the temporary change to the bridge operating regulation in the Local Notice to Mariners and via a Broadcast Notice to Mariners.
Expect delays depending on traffic volumes and waterway traffic requiring bridge lifts. Current truck restrictions will apply. California legal trucks having a kingpin-to-rear-axle of more than 30 feet are not recommended on State Route 160.
Weather conditions could delay or cancel scheduled work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.”
