July 17
Around 1030 at night, an Officer was driving along Highway 12 through town and saw a bicyclist riding without a light and riding on the wrong side of the highway. Especially at night, these can be exceptionally dangerous. The Officer stopped the bicyclist and after talking to him, he believed he was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol. The officer conducted a probation search on the cyclist and found a used syringe in his pocket and a syringe loaded with heroin taped to the bicycle. Based on his actions, he was placed under arrest for riding a bike under the influence of drugs and alcohol, possessing heroin and for violating his probation.
July 20
A storage yard on Airport Road and another business on River Road were broken into. The responsible group cut a fence to enter the yard and they broke into one trailer and stole alcohol. They also vandalized several other trailers. The group was spotted on a surveillance camera of the business and has been identified. Because of their age, their parents were contacted. At the time of the initial report, there was minimal damage and no one wanted charges pressed. However, several other vehicles and equipment was later found vandalized and charges are being considered.
Parking enforcement in the Homecoming area was conducted. The target for this enforcement was vehicles being left parked on the street, particularly RVs and boat trailers. At the end of the sweep, four vehicles were tagged with 72-hour notices that the needed to move, five tickets were issued (mainly for expired registration), and one vehicle was towed with almost two year old expired registration.
July 21
Officers were called to a possible suicide attempt after a woman was described running hysterically from a vehicle on highway 12. She was located along with the man who was driving. After speaking to both of them, it was determined a domestic violence battery had happened. Because of the visible injuries seen, the woman was placed under arrest for domestic violence.
July 22
An officer had his attention drawn to a vehicle driving with no rear window. The car also had expired registration. After contacting the driver and passenger, they were on active parole and subject to search. The officer searched the car and found numerous needles and amounts of heroin inside the car and hidden in the engine compartment. The owner of the drugs said they had been attending treatment but had relapsed. The suspects parole officer called our officer and requested that this person’s parole be violated. The suspect was booked into jail for possessing the drugs and violating his parole.
July 23
Officer’s were contacted by Lira’s Market after an employee saw someone pushing a shopping cart full of copper wire away from the store. They checked the surveillance footage and saw that the same person had stolen that wire from the alley behind the store. At the time, the suspect was unknown and had left the area. However, after showing the surveillance photos to other officers, the suspect was recognized and identified. This case has been referred to the District Attorney for prosecution.
An officer pulled over a vehicle for heavily tinted windows as he was not even able to see a silhouette of the driver. He could smell marijuana from inside the car and driver admitted that she was smoking marijuana while driving. It is illegal to both smoke marijuana while driving and to possess an open container of marijuana while driving. Based on the behavior of the driver and their performance on sobriety tests, the officer concluded they were under the influence. The driver also had three warrants from Napa County. She was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of a drug, possession of methamphetamine and a pipe, and for her outstanding warrants.
