July 24
Officers saw a car stopped on the side of River Road so the pulled over the check on the driver. The car was on and the driver was clearly under the influence of a substance. After talking with the driver and after sobriety tests, the driver was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence of marijuana.
July 25
A citizen at Chevron told Officers that there was a possible drunk driver in the area. Officers located a car on Highway 12 near Gardiner Drive. The car pulled over halfway onto the sidewalk. After investigation, the driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. A breath test indicated his blood alcohol content was 0.13. The legal limit to operate a car is 0.08.
July 28
Officers responded to Delta Pharmacy for a report of an alarm. When Officers got there, they could see broken windows on the front of the business. A witness described two people they saw running from the area around the same time. Even though the windows were broken, the suspects were not able to get inside the pharmacy, so nothing was taken. Surveillance cameras showed the two suspects walking around the business at the time of the alarm. They are still being identified and this investigation is ongoing.
July 29
Our Community Service Officer and School Resource Officer partnered with ATOD Alliance and the Rio Vista Fire Department to help pass out masks to the public. Cars pulled into Lira’s parking lot and from a distance told volunteers how many masks they needed. They then pulled up to the tent and received their masks along with a few public handouts. This was a great partnership and was very successful.
July 30
An Officer saw a car speeding on Highway 12 through the city. He pulled the car over and through Dispatch learned that the license plates were stolen. Normally, this is an indication of some nefarious act where the driver is trying to conceal the identity of the vehicle. However, after discussing this with the driver, it was learned that the driver was the victim in a case of someone else stealing his license plates and replacing them with plates that had been reported as stolen. This is a great example of working with law enforcement to help solve the problem.
