On a warm June evening SIRV met for their final business meeting of the year and what a year it has been! The final Treasurer’s Report was read and approved, the minutes of the last meeting were approved and there were speeches and food!

Megan Ross, the first “S” Club President of SIRV and scholarship recipient was on hand to share her first year of college experiences with the group. She is excited about college so far and is looking forward to her sophomore year.

Our membership co-chairs, Lupe Finch and Claudia See then inducted Charlene Spinner, a longtime Soroptimist from Nevada with eleven years experience. Formerly from the Bay Area, Charlene held many positions within the City of San Francisco including fleet manager for the SF Muni!

Kay Kelley, our outgoing President let us know how proud she is to have served as President, especially through the trying times of a pandemic. Presiding over Zoom meetings for the majority of the year was an entirely different experience, but the club was able to maintain. She thanked everyone for their support and hard work this year. Kay also thanked the community of Rio Vista for their generous support. She is grateful that she had the opportunity to work with so many local businesses.

The grand finale was the installation of the new officers. SIRV members welcomed their new President, Mingo Greco; Vice-President, Emily Cummings-Recinos; Secretary, Lynn Oesterle; Treasurer, Kay Kelley; Assistant Treasurer, Addie Sullivan and Club Liaison, Claudia See. President Mingo encouraged all members of SIRV to discover the Shero in themselves to continue investing and supporting the dreams of the women and girls in Rio Vista.

A big club thank you for hosting the event at her home went to Susan Whitesell and all of the committee chairwomen and with that, a motion was made and seconded to end the final meeting of the 2020/2021 year as the club goes dark for the summer. However, they’ll be back in September with big plans for a new year! Watch the Beacon for Soroptimist International of Rio Vista news.
