     Full Speed Ahead

This Saturday, April 27th, from 10am-5pm in Downtown Rio Vista, you won’t want to miss our inaugural Riverfront Arts Fest, celebrating local art and artists of all ages. No charge for attending and fun for the whole family. You can learn more about the events of the day here: https://riverfrontartsfest.com/. They include a People’s Choice Art Show, Floral Design raffle, Art Booths & Zones (for all ages), Live Music, art and craft vendors, and a wine and beer pavilion.  With a very pleasant weather forecast, we are expecting a lovely day downtown!   Organization for the Fest has been led by Diann Murphy.

As this article is written, we are still gathering volunteers to help out with the day. You can go to the following URL to see if & where help is still needed and sign up:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050A4EABA829A1F94-48422713-riverfront#/.

The Riverview Middle School Gardens would like to thank Eagle Scout Forrest Drury for reconstructing and repairing our garden trellises as his Eagle Project. Forrest was assisted by fellow members of Boy Scout Troop 285 including Brandon Leyba, Luke Fortes, Carlos Salz and Zachary Maitland. Thank you, scouts!  Forrest is the son of  Owen and Chandra Drury. The Garden continues to raise fresh vegetables to donate to the Rio Vista Food Pantry.
To keep up the good work, we need volunteers when harvest season starts in late May! Hours are Monday and Thursday, 8:30 am-11am;  all comers are welcome. The entrance to the garden is on Hamilton Avenue. Questions? Call Kathy Hill. 717.515.6928.

The RioVista Litter Pickers have been active. A group met at the Promenade on Earth Day, April 20th, to help with waterfront and Front Street clean up. Our next group event is May 25th, meeting at 9am in the parking lot of Rio Vista Ford, to pick up trash along the Hwy 12 business district. All ages are welcome. We provide grabbers, bags, gloves, and safety vests.

The City Art Program has projects in the works. As part of the Rock the Box project, artist Marilyn Nelson has completed the painting of a small utility box at the Western Entrance for which we finally received approval at the end of last year. Some of the larger boxes, eg those owned by PG&E, were not approved for painting.  Artists Harvey Steinhaus and James Pezzaglia have been working on bringing two of the city’s fire hydrants to life as part of the Rock the Spot Project. You can view them at 605 Main St. and 25 N. 3rd St. There are 3 more approved to be painted. Proposals for our Rock the Flock II Project to add more sculptures downtown go before the Rio Vista City Council on May 21st at 6pm in the Council Chambers at 1 Main St.

A reminder of upcoming RioVision sponsored events:

McCormack Ranch Sheep Dog Trials are BACK!!! Sat and Sun May 4th and 5th in the Montezuma Hills. Over 60 dogs and their handlers are expected to be competing, hoping for a place in the Finals competition in Virginia in the Fall. Public welcome.
Ticket and General Info can be found here (RioVision Gallery also selling tickets):

https://discoverriovista.com/mccormack-ranch-sheepdog-trial-2024/ .

If you want to volunteer at this event, contact us at info@riovision.net.

RioVision Community Forum – Join us at the Youth and Community Center (45 Main St) on May 13th at 6pm for a presentation by the NAPA/Solano Area Agency on Aging regarding Listening Circles. And please come see what we have to offer at the Gallery (116 Main St).
Look for our next issue of Discover Rio Vista magazine at the end of this month!

If you want to receive our monthly community newsletter or be a part of our cadre of intrepid volunteers, please contact us at info@rioivision.net. We work together to enliven our community, one project at a time.  Thank you for your support.  [https://riovision.net/]
