*Names and other specific information to identify persons are intentionally omitted.  All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.  Charges may be changed or dropped.  This is not a reflection of every police activity, but rather a selective summary.

October 24

Rio Vista PD was a part of the national Drug Take Back event this day.  Rio Vista PD allows residents to drop off unused, unwanted or expired medications during any business hours.  Over the last year and combined with this day, a total of 324 pounds of medication were collected from Rio Vista.  To put this in perspective, the standard Ibuprofen tablet weighs about half of a gram.  That means Rio Vista PD collected 293,928 pills.  We know that many medications weigh more or less, and some are liquid or aerosol.  This is just meant to illustrate the impact of this program.

Officers were called to the airport about the theft of a computer.  The computer belonged to a former tenant, but was abandoned and left behind after they left.  Months had passed and the computer had remained at the airport, but it was noticed as missing recently.  There was no victim in this case as the property was considered abandoned, but the theft was reported for the information.

October 25

Officers were driving on Highway 12 near Summerset Drive and saw a car traveling very quickly.  They tried to catch up and at 95mph were still not gaining any ground.  They turned on the emergency lights and the car did pull over.  Not only was this person recklessly speeding, but their drivers license was also suspended, they had no car insurance and the vehicle registration was expired.  She was given a traffic citation for the various violations.  Officers waited until a licensed driver came to pick up the car.

A resident along River Road reported that their RV trailer had been vandalized.  Someone had spray painted X’s on their windows with gold paint.  There were no witnesses, and video surveillance is being installed, but is not working yet.  A potential lead as a suspect in the case was able to produce an alibi, so the case remains under investigation.

October 26

A traffic collision between a vehicle and an off-road vehicle was reported on Summerset Road in Trilogy.  Officers responded to the scene and there were minor injuries.  Both of the vehicles belonged to the same company.  A collision report was taken and the person was treated for their injury.

October 27

A domestic violence was reported to have occurred the prior day.  The couple is separating but is legally married.  One person assaulted the other, but left each other alone for the night.  The victim was persuaded the following day to report this to police.  Even though the injury was relatively minor, this is a felony.  The suspect was contacted and voluntarily turned herself in.  She was arrested for domestic violence.

Officers were conducting traffic enforcement and saw a car come to a stop sign and roll through it.  Even though there was no one else at the stop sign, it still the law to fully stop at all stop signs.  The driver was pulled over and we learned the 36-year old did not have a drivers license.  They were issued a ticket for not stopping and for driving without a license.  The vehicle, which was not safely or legally parked, was towed.

October 28

An officer saw a vehicle driving with registration that had expired in 2018.  He stopped the car and saw an open botte of alcohol in the front seat.  The passenger said it belonged to her, but it is still illegal to have open alcohol in a car.  In addition, the driver was on Post Release Community Supervision (a form of parole).  Because of the PRCS and the open container, the car was searched and a glass meth pipe was located.  The passenger admitted that she had methamphetamine with her as well.  These a infractions and misdemeanor violations, so the they were issued citations.
